Tools|Chiller Energy Consumption Calculator

To help you calculate the energy consumption of your chiller, we have launched the chiller energy consumption calculator below. However, since the operating conditions of the equipment are constantly changing and some countries and regions implement tiered electricity tariff policies, the results are for reference only. We have also introduced the detailed calculation process below the calculator.

How to calculate the energy consumption of a chiller?

The energy consumption of an industrial chiller is mainly related to its power and running time.

Power

The power represents how much electrical energy the chiller consumes when it is running. The higher the power of the chiller, the more electrical energy it consumes per unit time. If you want to know the power of the equipment, you can use the following methods:

1. The rated power is written on the nameplate of the chiller.
2. Whether you buy a standard model or a custom chiller, the chiller manufacturer has order details archived. You can contact the chiller manufacturer and provide the equipment model to query the power.
3. If you buy a standard model device, you can go to the chiller brand official website product page to check the power.
4. When you cannot contact the supplier, purchase a power meter, power label and other equipment for manual measurement. It is recommended that it be operated by an electrical professional.

Running time

The longer the daily running time of the equipment, the higher its power consumption.

Calculate daily energy consumption

Daily energy consumption = power × daily operating time

A 50kW chiller runs for 8 hours a day, and its energy consumption is 50kW × 8h = 400kWh/day

Calculate monthly energy consumption

Monthly energy consumption = power × average daily operating time × number of days

A 50kW chiller runs for 8 hours a day and 20 days a month, and its energy consumption is 50kW × 8h × 20 = 8000kWh/month

Watt-hour and kilowatt-hour

1 Wh = 0.001kWh
1 kWh = 1000 Wh

If a chiller consumes 2500Wh, it is equivalent to consuming 2500Wh ÷ 1000 = 2.5kWh.
If it consumes 3.2kWh, it means that it consumes 3.2 × 1000 = 3200Wh.

Chiller electricity bill

The total amount of electricity consumed by the chiller multiplied by the unit price of electricity is the electricity bill.

For example, if the device consumes 50kWh of electricity per day and the local electricity fee is $0.12/kWh, the daily electricity fee = 50kWh × 0.12/kWh = $6.00
