Direct cooling means that the cooling water is in direct contact with the back face of the target material that is being sputtered from the front face. Indirect cooling is where the water cools a metal plate and the target material is in contact with the cooled plate.

The commonly used compressors at LNEYA are screw-type and scroll-type.
Screw-type chillers are primarily used in central air conditioning systems or large-scale industrial refrigeration. Scroll-type chillers, on the other hand, have smaller power compared to screw-type chillers and may not be suitable for heavy-duty applications.
